Primal signed the Pet Sustainability Coalition’s (PSC) Packaging Pledge! This means that we are making a public commitment to take meaningful action toward more sustainable packaging for the foreseeable future.

Pet Sustainability Coalition's Packaging Pledge
The Pet Sustainability Coalition’s Packaging Pledge is a new program that “helps companies meet voluntary, public, and time-bound commitments that will improve the sustainability of their packaging.” The PSC Packaging Pledge aligns with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, which is “Driven by the goal of tackling plastic pollution at its source, companies representing 20% of all plastic packaging produced globally.” By signing the pledge, we show our support for increasing participation from the pet industry to move toward recyclable, reusable, or compostable packaging.
The PSC Packaging Pledge is also backed by the U.S. Plastics Pact, Closed Loop Partners, The Recycling Partnership, World Wildlife Fund (W.W.F.), The Association of Plastic Recyclers (A.P.R.), and more leading industry experts.
Why This Matters
According to the PSC, 99% of all pet food & treat packaging goes to landfill, resulting in 300 million pounds of waste every year from the pet food & treats industry alone. Packaging is one of the top three concerns when it comes to sustainability-focused issues and efforts. Solutions to reducing waste are essential now more than ever, and we’re doing our part.
The pet food industry needs to actively partner with packaging providers to identify new solutions, tools, and resources that can protect the quality and integrity of pet food or treats and help reduce our environmental footprint. Accountability by industry experts, consumers, and businesses like ours is necessary.
By signing the Packaging Pledge, we’re able to work with the PSC to receive a variety of tools to help us develop sustainable plans for the future.
What We’ve Done So Far
There’s much to do, but we’re proud of the progress we’ve made so far and the standard we’re setting for the pet food industry. Currently, our latest innovations are all sold in recyclable packaging, including Freeze-Dried Raw Toppers, Treats, and our latest launch: Freeze-Dried Raw Pronto. Additionally, our Raw Goat Milk bottles are recyclable, and Fresh Topper containers incorporate post-consumer recycled paper fiber while guaranteeing that any new fiber used is harvested from responsible, well-managed forests. Recyclable and sustainable packaging will be a major objective for us in the coming years.
