3 Tips to Help Your Pet Stay Cool & Comfortable This Summer
The summer sun is no joke! As the summer season arrives, it's important to remember that our beloved pets also need special care to beat the heat. Just like us, they can be susceptible to overheating and dehydration. Here are 3 tips to help you get ahead of the hot temperatures and keep those busy summer days simple for your pet. Here’s how to help your dog or cat stay cool and comfortable with Primal.
Tip #1: Help Your Pet Stay Cool At Home
If you’re at work all day or out of town on summer vacation, you can make sure your pet stays cool and comfortable in the heat at home by keeping your house cool using a variety of methods.
Consider using fans or air conditioning to cool down the space where your pet spends most of their time. Provide them with a designated area near a fan or air conditioning vent, making it easier for them to find relief from the heat.
You can also create shady spots in your home where your pet can seek refuge from the sun's rays. If you have outdoor space, provide ample shade with umbrellas, canopies, or trees for your pet to relax under. Indoor plants or pet-friendly sunshades can also help filter sunlight and reduce the overall temperature in your home. Remember to regularly check the temperature in different areas of your house to ensure your pet has access to a cool and comfortable space throughout the day.
Tip #2: Be Prepared For the Heat When You Leave the House
Adventures with your pet in the summer are some of the best moments and memories of the season. When you’re out of the house with your pet, you can beat the heat a few different ways.
Take early morning walks with your dog (or cat!) while it’s still cool outside. If you like to let your cat wander on a leash in your yard, make sure that they have access to shade and plenty of water.
When you’re out walking your dog, whether it’s on your daily walk or a hike, consider bringing an extra water bottle just for them to drink from. You can also find a portable dog water bowl or water bottle with a built-in drinking compartment for your dog.
When you are out for a walk, also consider the heat of the pavement. If it’s too hot for you to walk outside barefoot, it’s almost certainly too hot for your pup. You can invest in a special sun balm for the pads of their paws or buy booties or shoes to protect their feet. If you’re unsure whether it’s too hot for them to walk outside, you can take the back of your hand and place it on the concrete. If it’s too hot to hold your hand on, assume it’s too hot for your dog.
Tip #3: Provide Plenty Of Moisture
Finally, ensure your pet stays hydrated by adding moisture to their diet!
We offer a variety of raw frozen diets for dogs who need plenty of protein to have the energy for every summer adventure. Our Raw Frozen Nuggets, Raw Frozen Patties, and Raw Frozen Pronto are complete and balanced raw food diets that are made with Certified Organic produce and ethically sourced proteins. They also have a higher moisture content than kibble to ensure your pet gets the moisture they need because the hydration they get from water alone may not be enough during the summer months.
We also offer Bone Broth for Dogs & Cats. Bone Broth is hydrating, helps with joint health and digestion, and contains essential minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium, which are important for maintaining strong bones and teeth, supporting nerve function, and promoting overall health. Bone Broth supports the structure and elasticity of joints, promoting mobility and reducing discomfort, especially in aging or active dogs. You can top your pet’s bowl off with Bone Broth, give it to them in their water bowl, or even freeze Bone Broth to make Pupsicles and Catsicles as a sweet summer treat.
Raw Frozen Nuggets, Raw Frozen Patties, Raw Frozen Pronto, and Bone Broth are great options to help your pet stay hydrated in the summer and year-round!
